  • Access Code (Also known as Pass Code)
  • The personal access code that allows you to join a conference call. There are both Host and Guest codes used to access a conference call.
  • Access Phone number
  • The telephone number used to reach the teleconferencing equipment where you input a conference code to gain access to a conference call.
  • AHT – Average Hold Time
  • The average amount of time between the moment a caller finishes dialing and the moment they are connected to the conference call.
  • Annotation
  • The process by which notes and drawing can be superimposed onto a presentation by a participant on a web conference.
  • Application Sharing
  • A feature of web conferencing that allows the Host of the conference to share desktop applications with the participants of the conference.
  • Attended Call
  • A conference call with a dedicated operator on the call who assists in the running of the conference call.
  • Attendee
  • Also known as a participant on a conference call refers to all people other than the leader or Host of the conference call.
  • Auto Continuation
  • A conference call feature that allows the participants of the conference call to continue with the conference call after the Host disconnects. The Host of the conference call has control over whether to enable this feature or not.
  • Automated Conference Call
  • A conference call that requires no operator intervention. Callers simply dial an access number and input a code to join the conference call.
  • Bridge
  • A piece of equipment that performs conference calls.
  • Chat
  • A web conferencing feature that allows the Host and Participants to instantly communicate with other participants on the web conference.
  • Collaboration
  • A term used in web conferencing to describe the ability to work with documents and applications with other participants.
  • Comm Line
  • A call established between a Host of an attended conference call and the operator to allow communication during the conference call with the operator running the conference call.
  • Command Keys
  • Touch tone command used on a telephone to control conference call features.
  • Conference Call
  • A meeting via the telephone between 3 or more parties that allows all parties to speak together. Also referred to as telephone conferencing, audio conferencing and teleconferencing.
  • Conference Continuation
  • A conference call feature that allows the participants of the conference call to continue with the conference call after the Host disconnects. The Host of the conference call has control over whether to enable this feature or not.
  • Conference Dial-In Number
  • The telephone number used by the Host and Participants to join a conference call.
  • Conference Entry Code
  • Also known as a passcode, this is the code used to enter the conference call after dialing into the conferencing system using the dial-in number.
  • CSP
  • The acronym for Conference Service Provider, a company that provides conference calls and othe teleconferencing related services.
  • Data Conference
  • Also known as a web conference or online meeting, this is a service that allows the Host to present visual elements with the participants on the conference call. Typically, you can share Powerpoint presentation, share applications on your computer and allow the participants to annotate the presentation using their computer.
  • Desktop Sharing
  • This is a function of a web conference where the Host is able to show their entire computer desktop with the participants on the conference call.
  • Dial Out
  • This is the function in a conference call that allos the Host to dial out to the participants from within the conference.
  • Dial-In Number
  • Also known as conference call access number, this is the number that the Host and participants dial to access the conference call.
  • Digital Record and Playback
  • A feature that provides a way to record a conference so that you can dial into the recording and listen to the conference after it has completed.
  • DTMF
  • Refers to Dual Tone Multi Frequency which are the tones that are produced when you hit the keys on a telephone. The universal standard allows systems to recognize the different tones and permit access to features such as the commands on a conference call.
  • E-Mail Invitation
  • This is a message sent from the Host or CSP that invites participants to join a conference call.
  • Echo
  • On a conference call this is an effect that can cause a participants voice transmission to repeat within the conference call. 
  • Echo Canceller
  • This is a device that is used to isolate and eliminate echo from a conference call.
  • Entry Announcement
  • A feature of a conference call that allows the participants to record their name when entering a conference and then play this recording when they enter the conference call.
  • Entry Tones
  • This is a tone that is played when a participant joins a conference call.
